What I've Learned

The most important thing I've learned this semester is the inequality that First Nations people face and how little Canadians do to fix it. The movie "The 8th Fire" talked a lot about the stereotypes non First Nations people have for Aboriginals and the fact that those people don't know the real truth about who they are. The article called, "The Death of Helen Betty Osborne" focuses on the evil things that Canadians do to First Nations people, specifically women. It said that the police who investigated her murder didn't put as much effort and importance on this case because of who she was. I have learned that First Nations people are not given equal treatments when they're alive or dead. I also learned about the fact that this needs to change. Canadians need to properly inform themselves of the inequality that First Nations people face and need to treat them the same as everyone else. Overall through all the movies, articles and research we've done in this course; i learned that First Nations people are treated unequally and that this needs to change.

  1. I agree with you, after learning and hearing the struggles and mistreatment of the first nations in this course, we should be taking the responsibility of changing our actions towards them.

  2. I agree with this, I think Canada doesn't do enough to stop the inequality, I think we should do more. I also agree that First Nations women deserve to be treated better. they are all getting miss treated and that's not right.
