What I've Learned
I think the most important thing I've learned this semester is that we don't know as much as we think. This semester we looked at poems and stories about not belonging, and the struggles people have. We go around thinking that people are okay when they aren't. Before this unit, we didn't know much about Natives, and all that has happened to them, and what is still happening. We just hear the stereotypes or nothing at all about them. The poems, stories, and essays that talked about identity were really interesting. It showed us a different point of view, and how it's difficult for some people to fit in, or just be apart of something. They are singled out because of little things. The Defining Moments speeches let us open up to the class, and it allowed people to see each other in a different light. Everyone has a pre-set idea of a person, but hearing some of the stuff that they talked about, allowed us to see them differently. We don't really know people until we actually talk to them. From this semester I learned that we shouldn't assume, or make pre judgements, and to learn about what is going on around us, other than just focusing on ourselves.

This is a beautifully-written post. You connect all of the elements of the course to arrive at your own conclusion about the value we are trying to create. I'm glad that you see it this way, and hope that in some way, no matter how small, you found it helpful.
