The most important thing I learned in ENG 3U
The most important thing I learned in this course is that not all Native Canadians are living on terrible dilapidated reserves. Firstly from "8th fire" I learned that a lot of Natives do not even live on reserves they live in houses or apartments in towns and cities. Also from 8th fire there are some Native reserves that have been made very nice for example the Osoyoos in the Okanagan valley have a five star hotel complex, a vineyard and a golf course. Now why is this the most important thing you have learned in this course you may ask. The reason I find this the most important thing I have learned is before this I thought all natives lived on these terrible reserves and that we the tax payers would just be pumping money into them forever. Now I have learned that a lot of natives already are not living like that then it gives me hope that we will not have to keep pumping in more money and that eventually everything will be all right in this issue.

These are good points. I'm glad that a few lessons have helped you to see that we need to do more than just accept stereotypes before we pass judgments. Is there a bigger idea that you can gain from all of this?
ReplyDeleteI agree that learning about Native culture was a very important part in this semester. We all had an idea of what they were like, but reading about them and watching the documentary showed us that the idea we had of them was wrong. They are normal people just like us, but they are treated terribly, and people don't care because they don't know anything. I also hope that eventually the Natives will be treated equally.
