The Most Important Thing Ive learned

Throughout all of the poems, novels, short stories, and articles I have read this unit, I believe the most important thing I have learned is that a persons culture effects the decisions they make in their life. For example in The Kite Runner Amir culture teaches him that all Afghan men have to be very honorable. He doesn't follow this for most of his life but years later he goes on a quest to do the most honorable thing possible which is to redeem all of the sins he has made in his life by returning to Afghanistan and risking his own death to rescue Hassans son. He did this because he culture taught him to be honorable. Culture also effects the decisions made in my Isu novel The Rock and The River. The characters are raised in a culture where everyone around them hates all white people and police because of the discrimination and harassment that is brought upon them by these people. Being raised in this culture causes the boys to join the Black Panthers which is a group that believes in using violence to fight back against these people who discriminate and physically assault them. Having being raised in a culture of hate for white people it would be hard not to join this group do to the influences of their culture. Through these examples is why I believe that the most important thing we have learned is that a persons culture effects the decisions they make later in life.
