Blog #2
The most important thing I've learned in this semester from our studies, is the Aboriginal/Rez Sisters unit. Living in the Canada for 17 years, I had never learned about the Native culture and it was very nice to know about the people that were here before my people. It was very eye opening to know how hypocritical the Canadians are for judging the Americans about diminishing another race, when we did it to the Natives. Now of course, we didn't go as far as the Americans had by it is close. I learned a lot of information about the Aboriginals, I would have not learned anywhere else, and now I have a new found understanding of the native people and that is why I believe this is the most important thing I've learned from my studies.

That's great Marcus. I also appreciate how you were willing to point out that there are always two sides to a story or issue. Not all Natives can use their past as an excuse for poor behaviour, just as criminals should not always be able to use a terrible upbringing as a cart blanche to be a horrible person. However, knowing their history can be a first step in developing an appreciation for why things are the way they are on and off of reserves.
ReplyDeleteI also found it very hypocritical of Canadians too discriminate against the Natives, as a person who used to live in northern Ontario I experienced first hand the discrimination against the Natives and I can say at times it could be worse than how Americans treat African Americans.
