Blog #2
The most important thing I have learned from Mrs. Hartholt's grade 11 3U course is to respect others no matter who the person is. This can be shown through each text we've read and analyzed this year. Every text has had a symbolic meaning behind it, in which most of them were about identity. Each and every text also shared the same thing in the fact that they were all cultural texts. I felt as though I knew a good amount of things about cultures around the world, but with each text I learned more and more about traditions and life in different countries and cultures. For example, the Kite Runner gave me a new perspective on what is/was going on in the world. I was unaware of what had to be done to receive pride and joy from even family members. This has shown me not to take things for granted, even people. The most surprising thing I learned from this year was the way Canadians have treated and still treat Natives in Canada. I was somewhat aware of the way they were treated, but I didn't know how bad it was until this class. The main thing that I learned from this class is to treat others the way you want to be treated, no matter if they are gay, or Mormon, or black, or 4 or 64.

Pucci, i agree with you. With all the texts we read and wrote about, the message i believe in the course is to have a understanding of the people we deal with in Canada. Aboriginals have always been here but the indian and asian people are moving to Canada much more. We are so quick to judge others we don't understand. We should already treat others as an equal to ourselves but in this world people are very ignorant and just judge. I'm thankful like you that we have learned more about different cultures in this class

ReplyDeleteI love you Pucc, and I agree with you as well as Marcus that we need to educate ourselves before we judge people simply on their culture. The reason our country has become such a good country to live in, is because of our diversity. Canada has learned to accept people that come from various and even unknown backgrounds, because we have learned that if we judge people on their culture or their identity, we could miss out on great opportunities.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't of been said any better! I agree with you and with the comments above. Our generations today are so quick to judge, rather than getting to know someone for who they really are. Being so quick to judge really gets you no where and as Davis said, being the people that we are in Canada.. we have learned to accept everyone who is different, whether it's their culture, religious views or even their beliefs. This is such an amazing feature to have because it does give Canada better opportunities and it's a great thing for people to learn about.
