At the age of 16 I can't say can't say that I have experienced something that defines me but something that has put great impact on me into being who I am today.
Here are a few things that have made me into the person I am today.
Firstly, sports take a huge role into helping me become who I am today. When I was 3 my mom had put me into gymnastics and I fell in love! I loved the idea of not having to dance but having to perform routines on the bars, floor and beam. Gymnastics to me is all about personal goals and where you would like to end up in the near future. Being in gymnastics you practice your skills and improve by working on new moves and skills and having coaches push you the best of your ability. Since gymnastics is really hard on your body, I had developed a groin injury which caused me to quit gymnastics a few years ago. Secondly, I love working with people and children. Since I moved to Orangeville in grade 5 I volunteer at a summer camp every year and I love it! I also volunteer at hockey tournaments, baseball tournaments, golf tournaments and my mom also volunteers for crime stoppers and is the director of fundraising for my brothers sports team so she also helps/works with the cheesecake factory which has given me great opportunities to volunteer with many different events! Thirdly,When I was 9 years old I lost someone very important to me to suicide. This has some-what made me who I am today because it has pushed me into trying to do the right thing for people. I also think that in the world we need more people who have the ability to stop someone from doing such a terrible thing to themselves. I think that since I have gone through and experienced someone hurt themselves it has pushed me into wanting to do the right thing when I am older and make a positive change to people's lives.
So, as of right now I can't say that I've been through something that has defined me because I am still so young. In a couple years I will be going off to university to start a new chapter of my life with new people and new experiences. I think that with so many more years that lie ahead, you can't already have something that defines you, but something that make's you who you are today.
Wow Taylor this is beautiful!!!!! Very good job I really enjoyed your blog!!!!! Hope your groin gets better soon!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt must be difficult when you lose things that define you: both your ability to compete in gymnastics and a person you loved. In a sense you must redefine yourself, and that can leave you feeling quite lost. It seems like you have found wonderful ways to contribute your positive energy and outlook with your volunteering, which is so commendable. How lovely that you have a mother who sets a positive example for you to follow. I'm sure that you are an inspiration to her as well.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this post because I also really enjoy sports and volunteer work, I believe it will help define you and shape you as a person as you get older. Growing up I tried lots of sports from soccer to gymnastics to dance to horseback riding, I did it all and through trying all these sports I learned what I'm good at as well as what I'm awful at! It was both of my parents that pushed me to try all these sports, like your mom my parents supported me through it all. I know what being injured in a sport feels like because I've gotten injured playing rugby and been forced to sit out some games and it wasn't fun.
