My Identity

Hi my name is Cooper and I have been playing golf since the age of 8! Golf and my friends that I golf with have helped define me! Golf has been in my past and it is in my present. I would love to go somewhere with golf and in my eyes golf could be my whole future. My first time hitting a golf ball... I was about 4 years old and I was with my dad at the 10 & 10 driving range. My parents have also been a huge part of my life, they have always been there for me no matter what. My mom encourages me so much to follow my dreams. My dad takes the time to drive me to the golf course about 4 times a week and occasionally play 18 holes with me. My golf coach Sam Young has obviously helped me a lot and he has been the only coach I ever had. When I was 13 Sam was inducted into the CPGA hall of fame! CPGA stands for Canadian Professional Golfers Association. When something goes wrong in my golf game I know that I can trust Sam to help me whether it my golf swing, my mental side of the game, or my putting. No matter what Sam will help me and lead me to a great future with golf. There have been 15 kids who were taught by Sam that have got scholarships, I hope to be one of the next along with some of my friends. Through my 8 years golfing with the Shelburne G & CC golf team I have made a lot of friends. In earlier grades like 7, 8 and 9 people would make fun of me for golfing and guess what? Most kids now in my school love to play golf, and the ODSS golf team had a lot more kids try out this year. It feels good to know that I am one of the best on the school team and last year I won an award at the Athletic Banquet. So overall through all of this golf has been huge part of my past, present and with be an even bigger part of my future. Golf can bring out many different emotions especially when I have a bad game, I get angry because I know that I can play a lot better. So when I play bad I know that next round I play I will try and beat that. My absolute favourite feeling in the world is winning a golf tournament. That will be my goal this year, to win as many tournaments as I can.

  1. It's obvious that you have a lot of respect for the game and the people who help you play it. It must be a real boost to know that you have so many people supporting you and your dream. I also appreciate that you are not in it just as an individual, but you also like being part of a team. Encouraging other students and friends demonstrates your real passion for the sport.

  2. I've know you for a pretty long time and one thing i've noticed is that your a real go getter, when you've set a goal for yourself you don't give up. It seems that you spend a lot of your time practicing and training which is great! A lot of people dream big but do nothing to work for it. I think if you keep up the attitude and effort you'll be the next Tiger Woods. (Or whoever's a good golfer) break a leg! lol
